OpenClaw, NeMoClaw… and the Part We’re Not Talking About 🦞
There’s a lot of hype right now around OpenClaw and NVIDIA’s push with NeMoClaw toward agentic AI as the “operating system for personal AI.”
And honestly — it is exciting.
But looking at it from a system architecture lens, there’s an important nuance that shouldn’t be ignored.
At the end of the day, an LLM is:
- A probabilistic engine
- A token predictor
- Not deterministic
- Not guaranteed to be correct
Hallucination isn’t a bug. It’s part of how it works.
Now we’re taking this and letting it:
- Access file systems
- Call APIs
- Execute actions
- Make decisions
That’s powerful. But also… risky if we’re not careful.
In traditional system design — especially in security-critical systems — we rely on:
- Deterministic execution
- Clear, verifiable state transitions
- Strict boundaries (zero trust)
This is how you build secure authentication systems, transaction integrity, and FIDO2-grade platforms. Because one wrong state = real consequences.
So the real question isn’t: “Are agentic systems powerful?” They are. The real question is: Where should they live in the architecture?
My view is pretty simple:
- Use agents at the experience / orchestration layer → automation, productivity, flexibility
- Keep the core trust boundary deterministic → auth, signing, critical logic
A simple rule I follow: LLMs should never be the authority — only a participant.
Yes, we’re seeing sandboxing, policy engines, and guardrails. All good and necessary. They help manage and constrain system behavior—but the underlying probabilistic nature of LLMs still needs to be considered in architectural decisions.
OpenClaw and NVIDIA’s NeMoClaw direction are powerful. But like any powerful tool, they need to be applied with architectural discipline. Because not every layer in a system can tolerate uncertainty.
The challenge isn’t capability — it’s knowing where not to use it.
